Marvel Rivals Donald Trump Mod Reportedly Banned

Nexus Mods Bans Donald Trump Marvel Rivals Mod Due to Sociopolitical Concerns

A recently uploaded Donald Trump mod for the popular game Marvel Rivals has been removed from Nexus Mods, reportedly due to violations of the site's rules against sociopolitically charged content. The mod, which replaced Captain America's model with that of Donald Trump, gained traction on social media, even sparking interest in a purported Joe Biden counterpart. However, both mods are now inaccessible on Nexus Mods, returning error messages indicating they cannot be found.

Marvel Rivals, a hero shooter from NetEase Games, has quickly amassed millions of players since its release. Players have been actively creating and sharing mods, altering character appearances with skins from various Marvel sources and even incorporating models from other games like Fortnite.

The removal of the Trump mod aligns with a 2020 Nexus Mods policy banning mods related to US sociopolitical issues. This policy, implemented around the time of the 2020 presidential election, aims to maintain a neutral platform. While the decision has been met with mixed reactions online, with some players questioning the ban and others finding it unsurprising given the perceived incongruity of Trump's likeness with Captain America's character, it's not unprecedented. Similar mods featuring Trump in other games, such as Skyrim, Fallout 4, and XCOM 2, have also circulated, though many may have been removed from Nexus Mods as well.

NetEase Games, the developer of Marvel Rivals, has yet to comment on the use of character mods, including those depicting controversial figures. The company is currently focusing on addressing other issues within the game, such as bug fixes and resolving wrongful bans.
