NetEase's Marvel Rivals mistakenly bans innocent players. The developer, NetEase, issued a public apology for wrongfully banning numerous players who weren't cheating. The affected players primarily used non-Windows systems (Mac, Linux, Steam Deck) and compatibility layers like Proton, which triggered the anti-cheat system. These bans have since been lifted.

The incident highlights the challenges of anti-cheat systems and their potential for false positives, especially when dealing with compatibility layers. NetEase urged players to report actual cheating and offered support for those wrongly banned.

Separately, players are calling for the implementation of character bans across all ranks in Marvel Rivals. Currently, this feature is only available at Diamond rank and above. Players argue that extending this mechanic to lower ranks would improve gameplay balance, encourage strategic diversity, and provide a better learning experience for new players. NetEase has yet to publicly respond to this request.
