Hot on the heels of announcing 26 additional cast members for the eagerly awaited Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. have hinted that more surprises are yet to come. However, the absence of several key MCU figures has not gone unnoticed. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is notably missing from the lineup, as is Chris Evans, who had been rumored to make an appearance in either Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars. Evans later clarified that these reports were untrue. Additionally, iconic characters such as Hulk, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, and Rhodey are absent, along with prominent X-Men members like Deadpool, Wolverine, Storm, and Jean Grey.

The omission of these fan-favorites sparked disappointment among the superhero community. Yet, hope remains, as Robert Downey Jr., transitioning from Iron Man to portray Doctor Doom, teased further announcements in an Instagram post. He stated, "That’s what u call a deep bench of talent. Actually it’s more like a row, but an extra long one… That must be it.. right?"

Marvel echoed this sentiment in the comments, stating, "there's always room for more." The Russo Brothers, co-directors of the film, added fuel to the speculation with their cryptic message, "It’s time…"

Clearly, Marvel has more in store for the Avengers: Doomsday cast. The big question remains: who else will join the fray? Share your predictions in the comments below.

Earlier this month, the Russo Brothers described Avengers 5 and 6 as a "new beginning," setting the stage for what’s to come in Phase 7 of the MCU. Joe Russo elaborated, “The only thing I’ll say about the movie is this: we love villains who think they’re the heroes of their own stories. That’s when they become three-dimensional and they become more interesting. When you have an actor like Robert Downey, you have to create a three-dimensional, well-shaped character for the audience. That’s where a lot of our focus is going.”

Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release on May 1, 2026, with Secret Wars following in May 2027. Leading up to these, Thunderbolts* is set to hit theaters in May 2025, the TV show Ironheart will premiere in June, and Phase 6 will launch with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.

In October, Marvel Studios added three untitled movie projects to its 2028 release schedule: February 18, 2028; May 5, 2028; and November 10, 2028. It seems increasingly likely that one of these films will introduce the X-Men to the MCU.
