Marvel's Newest Thunderbolts Team Includes Wolverine, Hulk, and Carnage

by Christian Mar 21,2025

With the Thunderbolts making their live-action debut soon, Marvel Comics is unleashing ambitious plans for the team in print. The current Thunderbolts are already heavily involved in the One World Under Doom crossover, but a brand-new team will electrify the scene shortly after the film's release.

Marvel unveiled New Thunderbolts—a series written by Sam Humphries (Uncanny X-Force) and illustrated by Ton Lima (West Coast Avengers), with cover art by Stephen Segovia. Check out the striking cover for issue #1 below:

While capitalizing on the film's hype—Bucky Barnes leads the team, and a mysterious asterisk graces the title—the roster is surprisingly fresh. This iteration features Clea, Wolverine (Laura Kinney), Namor, Hulk, and Carnage (with Eddie Brock as the current Venom) as new additions to the Thunderbolts.

The series kicks off with Bucky and Black Widow confronting a terrifying threat: Illuminati doppelgangers menacing the Marvel Universe. They'll assemble a formidable team to tackle this crisis, but managing such a volatile mix of heroes and villains will be a monumental challenge.

"I adore every Thunderbolts iteration," Humphries shared in Marvel's press release. "I'm thrilled to uphold the franchise's legacy of intense action, explosive personalities, and shocking twists. This is a gathering of seven of the Marvel Universe's most formidable and unpredictable forces. Building a super-team is like curating the perfect dinner party guest list. I envisioned a dangerous, chaotic, and utterly wild Marvel dinner party, and that's what we've created."

"I'm having a blast collaborating with Mr. Humphries and the team," Lima added. "This lineup is insane! They're not here for pleasantries; they dive straight into the action! That's the most exhilarating part to draw. None of them are known for taking it easy, so neither am I!"
