Atlus has released a new patch for Metaphor: ReFantazio, enhancing menu navigation and fixing bugs on all platforms. Released in October 2024, this critically acclaimed RPG continues to impress, achieving impressive sales and accolades, solidifying its place as a top RPG.
Initially unveiled in 2016 as Project Re:Fantasy, Metaphor: ReFantazio achieved a record-breaking one million global sales on its launch day, marking Atlus's most successful debut. This captivating tale of a young boy's quest to become King of Euchronia has garnered widespread commercial and critical success, winning numerous Game of the Year awards and boasting a perfect 100 score on OpenCritic. Development continues with the release of a new update.
Version 1.11 introduces improved menu navigation, allowing players on all platforms to adjust battle formations and swap party members from both the main menu and the equip screen. A new jump function on the item screen enables quicker access to specific locations. The PC version also benefits from numerous bug fixes addressing camera movement, frame rate, and controller input issues. Atlus's commitment to enhancing the player experience is evident in these ongoing updates.
The game's phenomenal reception has sparked discussions about a potential sequel. Director Katsura Hashino, while confirming no concrete plans, expressed his hope to eventually expand Metaphor: ReFantazio into a full-fledged JRPG series, alongside Persona and Shin Megami Tensei.
Although a sequel isn't currently in development, anticipation remains high for future announcements from Atlus. With the 2025 ninth anniversary of Persona 5 approaching, speculation regarding Persona 6 is intensifying. Metaphor: ReFantazio's success has elevated Atlus to new heights, leading many fans to believe that announcing a new Persona entry would be a strategic move to maintain this momentum.
