Fans of the Monster Hunter series have expressed their concerns over the weapon designs in Monster Hunter: World, leading to speculation about what Monster Hunter Wilds might offer. Although we've only seen a limited selection of weapons from Wilds, it's been difficult to fully gauge their design philosophy—until now. Monster Hunter Wilds Director Yuya Tokuda has provided clarity on this topic.
During a discussion about the Hope series armor and weapons, Tokuda shared: "Incidentally, weapon designs in Monster Hunter: World generally retained a certain form, but they featured a customized appearance based on which monster materials were used. However, in Wilds, each weapon has its own unique design."
This direct comparison to the weapon designs in Monster Hunter: World clearly answers the fans' concerns—Monster Hunter Wilds will not have weapons that look too similar to each other. In Monster Hunter: World, while some weapons eventually became unique upon upgrading, many retained similar appearances even at their most upgraded state. For instance, the final aqua line Sword and Shield closely resembles the final Pukei-Pukei Sword and Shield, and the final bone line Long Sword is very similar to the final Jyuratodus Long Sword, as seen in the image below. These were the most upgraded versions of these weapons at the launch of Monster Hunter: World.
