The saga of MultiVersus deserves a chapter in gaming history, a cautionary tale alongside the likes of the Concorde. Yet, the game isn't quite finished, poised for a final, bittersweet act with the reveal of its last two characters: Lola Bunny and Aquaman.
This announcement comes against a backdrop of mounting fan frustration, some escalating to threats against the development team. MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh addressed this directly in a heartfelt message, pleading with players to refrain from such actions.
Huynh apologized for the disappointment felt by those whose favorite characters never made it into the game, expressing hope that they would still find enjoyment in Season 5’s content. He clarified that character selection is a complex process involving numerous factors, and his personal influence is less than some players may have believed.
Following the shutdown announcement, some players expressed anger over their inability to spend in-game tokens on new characters—a promised benefit for purchasers of the $100 edition. This unmet expectation likely contributed to the negativity and threats.
