MultiVersus to Shut Down When Season 5 Concludes in May

by Jack Mar 05,2025

MultiVersus, the Warner Bros. platform fighter, is ending its run. Player First Games announced that Season 5, launching February 4th, will be the game's last, with servers shutting down May 30th, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. This news follows a disappointing financial performance for the game, contributing to significant write-downs for Warner Bros. Discovery.

The studio detailed the closure in a blog post, confirming that online play will cease on May 30th. However, players will retain access to all acquired content offline via local and training modes. Real-money transactions are already unavailable, but Gleamium and character tokens can still be used until the shutdown. The game will also be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store.

The MultiVersus team expressed gratitude to players and supporters in a heartfelt message.

It's been an incredible ride, MVPs. Thank you for all the support. For more details, please visit our blog post https://t.co/tLVzpA9JaQ and FAQ https://t.co/XKuxAnd26j. pic.twitter.com/VLzBDbP0GQ

Despite the closure, Season 5 will include new content, notably the addition of Lola Bunny (unlockable via daily calendar) and Aquaman (available through the battle pass) as playable characters. This final season aims to provide a fitting end to the game's lifespan. The underperformance of MultiVersus, as acknowledged by Warner Bros. Discovery in a November financial call, resulted in a substantial $100 million writedown, adding to the company's overall gaming sector losses. This news comes after other setbacks, including the underperformance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and the departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad.
