A Dungeons & Dragons live-action series is currently in development at Netflix, according to a recent report from Deadline. The project, set in the iconic Forgotten Realms—the same universe that served as the backdrop for the hit film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Larian Studios’ critically acclaimed game Baldur’s Gate 3—is being spearheaded by director Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) and writer-showrunner Drew Crevello (WeCrashed), with Hasbro also involved in the production.

Described as “one of Netflix’s biggest TV bets in the fantasy space to date,” this potential series could pave the way for an expansive D&D universe on the streaming platform. Although neither Netflix nor Hasbro have officially commented, Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva reported that after lengthy negotiations typical for high-profile intellectual properties, the show is now set for further development at the streamer—with the possibility of launching a broader franchise should it succeed.

While this new Netflix series moves forward, the future of a cinematic sequel to Honor Among Thieves remains uncertain. Despite fan enthusiasm and star Chris Pine expressing confidence in a follow-up back in November 2023, Paramount Pictures has remained silent. CEO Brian Robbins hinted that a sequel might only move forward if it can be produced with a reduced budget.
