Crossplay in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: To Disable or Not to Disable?

Cross-platform play has revolutionized online gaming, uniting the Call of Duty community. However, crossplay isn't without its downsides. This guide explains how to disable crossplay in Black Ops 6 and the implications of doing so.

The Crossplay Dilemma

Disabling crossplay in Black Ops 6 presents a trade-off. Many players disable it to level the playing field, believing it creates a fairer experience. Console players, in particular, often prefer to avoid PC players due to the inherent advantages of mouse and keyboard controls – superior aiming precision – and the increased potential for encountering cheaters. While Call of Duty's Ricochet Anti-Cheat system exists, reports of cheaters persist in Black Ops 6 and Warzone. Disabling crossplay theoretically reduces this risk.

The downside? Disabling crossplay significantly shrinks the player pool, leading to longer matchmaking times and potentially poorer connection quality in matches.

Disabling crossplay is relatively simple. Locate the "Crossplay" and "Crossplay Communications" toggles in the Account & Network settings. These are usually found near the top of the settings menu. Toggle the setting from "On" to "Off" using the X or A button (depending on your console). This can be done from within Black Ops 6, Warzone, or the main Call of Duty menu. Note that the image above shows the setting added to Quick Settings for easier access.

Keep in Mind: You may find the crossplay setting greyed out in certain modes, such as Ranked Play, where crossplay is sometimes mandatory. However, Season 2 of Black Ops 6 is expected to offer more player choice in this regard, even in competitive modes.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
