Nintendo Ships 'Out of Stock' Signs to Retailers Before Switch 2 Launch

Nintendo has reportedly started distributing Switch 2 branded "Out of Stock" signs to retailers—even before the console officially launches.

The highly anticipated Switch 2 is scheduled to arrive in just two days, on Thursday, June 5. Anticipation is high, and Nintendo is already preparing for demand to significantly exceed supply.

As noted on Reddit (via VGC), official “Out of Stock” signage for the Switch 2 has begun appearing in U.S. retail stores, displayed alongside standard promotional materials for the console and its launch title, Mario Kart World. One Reddit user working at a store planning a midnight launch wrote, “Got these signs in from Nintendo. They got jokes.”

Still, early stock shortages are typical for most successful console launches. Switch 2 customers have already faced intense competition for pre-orders, making a sellout almost inevitable.

In this context, the “Out of Stock” signs serve a practical function—helping retail staff manage customer inquiries about Switch 2 availability.

One commenter humorously pointed out: “Every retail worker knows they'll have 10 people a week, maybe more, stand in front of that sign and yell at them about going to get the extra consoles from 'the back' like the stock room is Narnia for electronics.”

“This is type of advertising so consumers will want to get it,” another fan observed. “It shows there is high demand and psychologically you feel you need to get it.”
