Nintendo Switch 2 Accessory Prices Rise, Fans React to Increased Costs

by Aaliyah May 14,2025

Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order date and pricing for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console and its accessories. While the console itself maintains its original price, the cost of accessories has seen a noticeable increase, prompting some early adopters to reconsider their pre-order plans.

The Nintendo Switch 2 base model is priced at $449.99, with the bundle including Mario Kart World set at $499.99. Mario Kart World remains a standalone game at $79.99, while the new Donkey Kong Bananza will cost $69.99.

However, the pricing for accessories has undergone a broad increase. Here's a detailed breakdown:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - $84.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Pair - $94.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip - $39.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Strap - $13.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set - $24.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - $54.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set - $119.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector - $39.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case - $84.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter - $34.99

In their announcement, Nintendo explained that the "price adjustments from those announced on April 2 are due to changes in market conditions." Many of the higher-priced items, such as the Joy-Con 2 Pair, Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the camera, have seen a $5 increase. The Switch 2 Dock Set has experienced a $10 increase, moving from $109.99 to $119.99.

The significant price hike for the Joy-Con 2 Pair, now just $5 shy of a triple-digit price, has left many prospective buyers surprised and frustrated. Social media has been abuzz with discussions about the cost, with many users expressing their concerns.

On a positive note, Nintendo has confirmed that numerous Switch 1 accessories will remain compatible with the Switch 2. The original Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro controller can be wirelessly paired with the new console, although the former cannot be directly attached. Additionally, Super Nintendo and N64 controllers will still be usable with compatible games.

Many users are discussing the compatibility of Switch 1 accessories and considering third-party options. While these alternatives might lack certain functionalities like the C-button or the ability to wake the console, they could offer a cost-effective solution for some buyers.

Nintendo has also cautioned that future price adjustments are possible, stating, "Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions." For those who already own a Pro controller, the compatibility with the Switch 2 provides a silver lining amidst the price increases.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will commence on April 24, 2025.
