"Nintendo Switch 2: Joy-Con Mouse Controls for Home Menu Navigation"

by Brooklyn May 25,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the Switch 2 Joy-Con's innovative mouse controls directly on the Home screen. This exciting feature was hinted at since the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal, and last month, we received official confirmation that the new Joy-Con can operate in "mouse mode." In this mode, players can slide the controllers across surfaces, using the analog sticks to simulate left-clicks and right-clicks, much like a traditional mouse. Furthermore, two Joy-Con can be used simultaneously in mouse mode, allowing for one in each hand, or one in standard mode and the other in mouse mode.

New details have emerged, showcased on the Nintendo Today app and shared on X/Twitter, illustrating how the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls will enhance navigation on the Switch 2 Home menu. As demonstrated by Nintendo, "if you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen." To activate the cursor, simply set the Joy-Con 2 on a flat surface like a table and move it accordingly. "While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus," Nintendo added, "\[and\] use mouse controls on the Home menu and in compatible software." To revert to using the thumbstick, just reposition the Joy-Con 2 horizontally.

While the full extent of game compatibility remains uncertain, Nintendo has demonstrated this technology working seamlessly with the Switch 2 editions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, as well as the wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.
