Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Mouse Theory Is Looking Pretty Good Right About Now

by Nova Feb 27,2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal this morning lends significant credence to earlier rumors about Joy-Con mouse functionality.

PlayThe reveal trailer showcased detached Joy-Cons placed attachment-side down on a surface, connecting to what appear to be flat-bottomed connectors. These then move across the surface, mimicking mouse cursor movement. A possible slider pad is visible on one connector, further supporting this theory.

Pre-reveal speculation centered on an internal Joy-Con sensor, similar to those in computer mice. While Nintendo hasn't confirmed this feature, fans envision applications in traditionally mouse-and-keyboard-centric games like Civilization. However, given Nintendo's innovative history, unique first-party game implementations are also anticipated. The possibilities remain open.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding potential mouse support and the function of a new Joy-Con button, several details about the Switch 2 are confirmed. Officially named the Nintendo Switch 2, its release is slated for 2025, and a new Mario Kart title is in development. Backward compatibility with the original Switch is assured, with further software announcements expected during an April Direct. Stay updated on all our Nintendo Switch 2 coverage here.
