Capcom has confirmed that Street Fighter 6 has surpassed 5 million copies sold, up from the 4 million units reported in September 2024. This new sales milestone was boosted by the game's release on the Nintendo Switch 2.
According to Capcom, the goal was to expand the game's player base by launching Street Fighter 6, now two years old, simultaneously with the Switch 2. The Switch 2 version includes exclusive modes developed specifically for the console, along with gameplay features that take advantage of the Joy-Con 2's gyro functionality. It is also notable that the Switch 2 edition supports crossplay, broadening the available player pool for matchmaking.
Capcom stated, "These efforts have enhanced Street Fighter 6's widespread appeal, boosted global sales, and contributed to the title reaching the 5 million units sold milestone."
Street Fighter 6 reached 3 million copies sold in January 2024, just seven months after its initial release. Capcom has noted that the game is progressing roughly as expected, but prior to launch, the company had set a goal for the sequel to outperform Street Fighter 5, targeting lifetime sales exceeding 10 million copies.
The company commented, "While specific budget figures are not disclosed, we aim to exceed the performance of the previous title, Street Fighter 5, and are targeting lifetime sales of more than 10 million units." Street Fighter 6 still has significant ground to cover before surpassing Street Fighter 5's overall sales.
For context, the 1993 SNES title Street Fighter 2 Turbo sold 4.1 million copies, the iconic Street Fighter 2 sold 6.30 million, and Street Fighter 5 has reached 7.8 million units sold.
Another noteworthy comparison is with rival fighting game Mortal Kombat 1, which also sold 5 million copies after its September 2023 launch. Mortal Kombat has historically been the top-selling fighting game franchise, significantly outpacing series like Street Fighter and Tekken. However, Mortal Kombat 1 is considered a sales disappointment, and developer NetherRealm recently confirmed it has concluded support to focus on its next project.
Meanwhile, Capcom continues to support Street Fighter 6 as it enters its third year, having recently announced four new DLC characters: Sagat arrives this summer, C. Viper in the fall, Alex in early spring 2026, and finally, Ingrid in late spring 2026. The announcement was featured in a trailer starring professional wrestler Kenny Omega, who dressed up as each of the upcoming characters.
IGN's Street Fighter 6 review awarded the game a 9/10, stating: "Street Fighter 6 offers the most extensive feature set ever seen in a series launch. Beyond that, its roster of 18 characters is excellent, the new mechanics refresh the one-on-one fighting experience, and it perfectly executes the small details that define an outstanding fighting game."
