During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled exciting news for fans: nearly the entire Nintendo Switch library will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. However, a select few titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, boasting unique features. The highlighted games include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game offers distinct upgrades. The showcase began with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces a new feature called "Jamboree TV". This upgrade brings mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble effects, and innovative gameplay utilizing a new camera accessory.
Following that, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are set to receive upgrades including enhanced resolution, higher framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, these games will benefit from a new feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes, which offers voice guidance to locate Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom using QR codes with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is slated to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 titled Star-Crossed World, along with improved graphics and framerates.
Two upcoming titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, will also receive upgraded versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will feature mouse control support and will run at 4K resolution with 60fps and HDR. Pokemon Legends: Z-A will enjoy enhanced resolution and framerates.
These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Owners of the original versions of Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby on the Switch can purchase upgrade packs to access the enhanced features.

Later in the presentation, Nintendo also announced that several third-party games will receive Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. These include Civilization 7, which will feature mouse support, and Street Fighter 6, which will include exclusive game modes for the Switch 2.
Nintendo sparked curiosity about "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games last week with a webpage mentioning them in a footnote related to the newly-announced Virtual Game Card system. The footnote clarified that these upgraded games cannot be transferred via Virtual Game Card to the original Nintendo Switch.
