Hori's Piranha Plant camera, which is officially licensed by Nintendo, comes at a more affordable price compared to Nintendo's $49.99 camera. It's also compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2, which is set to launch on June 5, along with both camera options. Users can also opt for any USB-C compatible camera for the Switch 2.
The Piranha Plant camera offers unique functionality; the part that houses the webcam can detach from its pot, allowing it to be placed directly on top of the Switch 2 for enhanced portability—a feature absent in Nintendo's camera. Additionally, users can close the plant's mouth to cover the lens, adding a playful element to its design.

The revelation that Hori's Piranha Plant camera is limited to a 480p resolution caused a stir among Nintendo fans. On Reddit, user Ramen536Pie expressed disbelief, asking, "How do you even make a 480p camera in 2025? That must be harder to do than a 1080p camera." LizardsoftheGhost found humor in the situation, joking, "That’s actually hilarious. Maybe they meant to release this back when the Wii U came out." Meanwhile, pokemonfitness1420 questioned, "Isn't 480p a crime nowadays?"
During last week's Nintendo Direct, the company introduced the Switch 2's GameChat functionality, accessible through the C button on the new Joy-Con. This feature allows players to watch and interact with each other during gameplay, facilitated by a camera and a built-in microphone that performs reliably across various gaming environments. The C button's chat menu is designed as an all-in-one multiplayer feature, potentially marking Nintendo's most successful online initiative in recent years.
