Oblivion Remastered Ghost Hunt Starts With Spectral Horse

by Eleanor Dec 12,2025

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered contains its share of supernatural elements—skeletons, ghosts, and zombies—but players are baffled by reports of an undocumented "ghost horse" not found in either the 2006 original or this 2025 remaster.

The mystery began when Reddit user TaricIsNotASupport shared an image of a spectral horse seemingly waiting to be discovered in-game.

"I was experimenting with spellcrafting in Frostcrag Spire, one of my favorite pastimes in Oblivion," the player explained. "When leaving the tower, I spotted something unusual in the distance and immediately rushed to investigate. To my surprise, I found this nameless ghostly steed."

The veteran player, with thousands of hours in the original and over a hundred in the remaster, had never encountered this entity before. The discovery prompted a community-wide investigation, with players scouring the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages without finding any reference to such a spectral mount.

Curiously, the ghost horse functions like any normal mount. "It can be ridden, fast travels, and even gets stabled properly," TaricIsNotASupport confirmed. "By all accounts, it's become my permanent steed!"

Several theories have emerged:

  • Potential Glitch: Given Bethesda's history with unusual bugs, players speculate this could be a graphical or coding error, possibly from spell interactions.
  • Secret Addition: Some wonder if developers Bethesda and Virtuos intentionally included this as an Easter egg.
  • Rare Occurrence: It might represent an extremely rare spawn that few players ever encounter.

The community has affectionately dubbed the mysterious mount "Spookmane." While its origins remain unclear, the spectral horse has already captured players' imaginations. "This might be my favorite accidental discovery," TaricIsNotASupport remarked. "Spookmane is magnificent, and I adore it."

About Oblivion Remastered

Developed by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, the remaster features:

  • 4K resolution at 60fps
  • Enhanced character creation and leveling systems
  • Improved combat animations and UI
  • New dialogue and lip-sync technology
  • Overhauled third-person camera

While marketed as a remaster, many players argue the scale of improvements qualifies it as a remake. Meanwhile, the gaming community continues uncovering secrets and sharing valuable tips—from optimal quest sequencing to boundary-breaking exploration beyond Cyrodiil's borders.
