Osmos, the acclaimed cell-absorbing puzzle game, returns to Android! Previously removed due to playability issues stemming from outdated porting technology, it's back with a completely revamped port from developer Hemisphere Games.
For those unfamiliar, Osmos is a unique, award-winning puzzle where you absorb smaller organisms while evading larger ones. Its simple yet engaging premise made it a hit, but Android users faced a long period without access.
Now, years after its initial 2010 release, Osmos is available on Google Play, optimized for modern Android systems. Hemisphere Games explains in a blog post that the original Android version, developed with Apportable, became unplayable due to Apportable's closure and reliance on obsolete 32-bit Android architecture. This new port rectifies these issues.

A Cellular Masterpiece
If you need further convincing, check out the gameplay trailer (above). Osmos' innovative mechanics have influenced countless subsequent games, and its absence from the early days of social media is a missed opportunity – it would undoubtedly be a TikTok sensation.
Osmos offers a nostalgic yet rewarding experience, reminiscent of a time when mobile gaming felt boundless. While it stands out aesthetically, there are many other excellent mobile puzzle games available. Explore our top 25 best puzzlers for iOS and Android for more brain-bending challenges.
