While a Nintendo Switch version of Palworld isn't entirely off the table, Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe has voiced concerns about the technical hurdles involved in porting the game.

Palworld's Switch Port Challenges

Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe recently spoke with Game File, shedding light on the difficulties of bringing Palworld to the Nintendo Switch. While not dismissing the possibility entirely, Mizobe highlighted significant technical challenges. Discussions regarding new platforms are ongoing, but Pocketpair currently has no announcements to make.

The demanding PC specifications of Palworld present a considerable obstacle for a Switch port. Mizobe previously acknowledged this, stating that the game's PC requirements exceed the Switch's capabilities.

Future Platform Plans

Mizobe hasn't specified whether Palworld will launch on PlayStation, other Nintendo platforms, or mobile devices. However, earlier this year, he confirmed to Bloomberg that Pocketpair is exploring options for expanding the game's availability on additional platforms. He also mentioned the company is open to partnerships or acquisition offers, but hasn't engaged in buyout discussions with Microsoft.

Enhancing Multiplayer with Ark and Rust Inspiration

Beyond platform considerations, Mizobe expressed his vision for enhancing Palworld's multiplayer features. An upcoming arena mode, described as an experiment, is a stepping stone towards more robust multiplayer experiences. Mizobe aims to implement a true PvP mode, drawing inspiration from the popular survival games Ark and Rust. These games are known for their challenging environments, deep resource management, and extensive player interaction, including alliances and tribal warfare, blending PvE and PvP elements.

Palworld, Pocketpair's creature-collecting and survival shooter, has enjoyed a remarkably successful launch. The game sold 15 million copies on PC in its first month and attracted 10 million players on Xbox via Game Pass. A major update, the free Sakurajima update, is launching Thursday, introducing a new island, the highly anticipated PvP arena, and more.
