Following a failed Dire Maul North run in World of Warcraft Classic's Anniversary servers, streamer Pirate Software was ousted from the prominent OnlyFangs guild. The recently added Dire Maul to the Anniversary servers has already claimed several OnlyFangs Hardcore characters.
Prior to Blizzard's official launch of Hardcore servers in August 2023 (which initially saw declining popularity until the November 2024 Anniversary server launch), players self-regulated zero-death runs. The Anniversary servers revitalized World of Warcraft Classic, significantly impacting the population of the original Classic servers. Since their introduction, numerous Hardcore players have perished, while others have achieved level 60 under the stringent rules. Among the recent casualties are Sara and Snupy, and the responsible player, Pirate Software, has faced the consequences.
Social media posts confirm Sodapoppin's decision to expel Pirate Software, as detailed in a Discord announcement. The statement cited the guild's discomfort with Pirate Software following the deaths of two members during the Dire Maul North run. The incident involved the group pulling a boss before clearing a pack of Gordok ogres. When a party member suggested retreating to reset the encounter, Pirate Software abandoned the group during the escape, leading to the deaths of Sara and Snupy. While normally he might have remained, his refusal to acknowledge his role sealed his fate. (A video documenting the event contains strong language.)
The primary criticism centers on Pirate Software's unwillingness to accept responsibility. A post-run review by Twitch streamer Sodapoppin highlighted Pirate Software's failure to utilize crowd control, specifically suggesting he could have employed Blizzard rank 1 to slow enemies without excessive mana expenditure. Other OnlyFangs members, such as Mizkif, allege Pirate Software issued threats to fellow streamers after the incident. Pirate Software responded to his expulsion on Twitter, expressing dissatisfaction with the handling of the situation.
Given the numerous expulsions from OnlyFangs since its recreation on the Anniversary server Doomhowl, some former members may form their own group. With Blizzard's continued updates adding Vanilla-accurate content, further OnlyFangs casualties are anticipated as new dungeons and raids become available.
