Sony's PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures are bringing the acclaimed video game Helldivers 2 to the big screen. The exciting news was revealed at CES 2025 by PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash, who stated, "We're thrilled to announce we've commenced development on a film adaptation of our incredibly popular game, Helldivers 2." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space combat on the silver screen.

Developed by Arrowhead Studios, Helldivers 2, a shooter reminiscent of Starship Troopers, achieved phenomenal success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, with 12 million copies sold in its first 12 weeks. The game's popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original game.

In related news, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a collaboration between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures – the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie. Qizilbash offered an initial glimpse into the project: "We're in the early stages of the Horizon Zero Dawn film, but we can assure audiences: this world and its characters will receive their first cinematic treatment."
