PlayStation Stars Shuts Down After 3 Years

by Owen Oct 10,2025

Sony has discontinued its PlayStation Stars loyalty program less than three years after its debut.

The rewards initiative stopped accepting new participants today, and members who cancel will lose all accumulated points permanently with no option to rejoin.

Current members can keep earning points through July 23, 2025, and have until November 3, 2026 to redeem their existing balances.

Though the program is ending, Sony confirms PlayStation Stars Digital Collectibles will remain viewable indefinitely - including those prized Jim Ryan bobblehead 3D models.

"Throughout PlayStation Stars' operation, we've gained valuable insights into player preferences," said Grace Chen, PlayStation's VP of Network Advertising, Loyalty and Licensed Merchandise. "As we adapt to evolving industry trends, we've chosen to sunset this current iteration while exploring ways to implement what we've learned."

The PlayStation Blog statement didn't specify replacement plans or elaborate on Sony's key program takeaways.

Launched in July 2022, PlayStation Stars rewarded PS5 users with redeemable points for PlayStation Store purchases and completing activities like surveys and game trials.

The program competed with Microsoft's Xbox Rewards - both of which gradually reduced their benefits over time.

After suffering month-long service outages last summer, Sony shortened point expiration from 24 to 12 months in October and excluded PlayStation Plus subscriptions from eligibility before ultimately discontinuing the program entirely.
