The Pokémon Company has decided not to include Pokémon TCG Pocket in its competitive circuit, at least for the time being. Dive into this article to uncover more about the game's future in the competitive scene and explore the potential reasons behind this decision.

Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet

No Plans For Competitive Pocket

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

Currently, there are no plans to integrate Pokémon TCG Pocket into Pokémon's competitive circuit. In a recent interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, Chris Brown, the Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, stated that while they are constantly evaluating different titles for inclusion, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't slated to join just yet.

Brown humorously mentioned, "Pokemon Sleep is out there too," referencing a parody trailer for a Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament released as an April Fool's prank. He clarified, "But at this time, there are no plans for Pokémon Pocket to join, though we’re always looking at things."

Too Early And Unbalanced

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

While The Pokémon Company hasn't officially stated the reasons for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from competitive play, fans have their theories. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its infancy with only four months of play and two sets released.

Despite the presence of competitive features within the app from the start, players have been vocal about the need for better balance. Pokémon TCG Pocket, being a simplified version of the original Pokémon card game, caters to a more beginner-friendly audience, which might not align with the intense competitive environment.

Nonetheless, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit continues to thrive, offering events for Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite. These games will be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
