Several older mobile devices will lose compatibility with Pokemon GO following upcoming updates in March and June 2025. This change primarily impacts 32-bit Android devices, leaving many long-time players needing to upgrade their phones to continue their gameplay.
Pokemon GO, a popular augmented reality game celebrating its ninth anniversary this year, boasts a substantial player base. However, Niantic's efforts to optimize the game for newer devices necessitate the discontinuation of support for older models. This decision, announced on January 9th, will affect various Android devices, including those downloaded from the Samsung Galaxy Store and Google Play. While a complete list of affected devices isn't provided, the announcement specifies that 64-bit Android devices and all iPhones will remain compatible.
Affected Devices (Partial List):
Players using affected devices are urged to securely save their login credentials. While account access will be restored after upgrading to a compatible device, gameplay will be unavailable until the upgrade is complete. This includes access to any purchased Pokecoins.
Despite this disruption, 2025 promises exciting developments for the Pokemon franchise. Highly anticipated releases like Pokemon Legends: Z-A are on the horizon, along with rumored projects such as Pokemon Black and White remakes and a potential new Let's Go installment. A leaked date for a Pokemon Presents showcase on February 27th may shed further light on future Pokemon GO updates.
