Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How To Catch And Evolve Deino

by Connor Feb 12,2025

This guide details how to obtain and utilize the powerful Dark/Dragon-type Pokémon Hydreigon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Hydreigon, a pseudo-legendary Pokémon, boasts impressive stats and is a valuable asset to any team. However, its evolutionary line (Deino and Zweilous) is exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet.

Acquiring Deino:

Deino and its evolution, Zweilous, are found in several locations within Pokémon Scarlet:

  • Alfornada Cavern: Located in the southwest of the Paldea region. Requires Koraidon's high jump ability.
  • Dalizapa Passage: Situated between Medali and Zapapico.
  • Glaseado Mountain: A more accessible location.
  • Area Zero: Another readily accessible area.
  • North Province (Area Two): Easily reachable area.

Deino can also be obtained from 3-star Tera Raids (unlocked after 3 Gym Badges), offering a chance for a Hidden Ability. Zweilous appears in 4-star Tera Raids. Hydreigon itself can be found in 5/6-star Tera Raids.

Transferring Deino to Pokémon Violet:

Since Deino is exclusive to Scarlet, players of Violet must acquire it through trading or Pokémon HOME. Trading requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership, while Pokémon HOME allows transfers from other compatible games (Sword/Shield, Pokémon GO, and Scarlet). The HOME transfer process involves moving Deino to your HOME Basic Box, then transferring it to your Pokémon Violet PC Box.

Evolving Deino:

Deino evolves into Zweilous at level 50, and Zweilous evolves into Hydreigon at level 64. Utilize auto-battling or Exp. Candies (L and XL recommended) to expedite the evolution process.

Hydreigon's Strengths and Weaknesses:

Hydreigon's base stat total is 600, with high Special Attack and Attack, and good Speed. A Timid or Jolly nature is recommended.

  • Type Effectiveness:
    • Super Effective Against: Dragon, Ghost, Psychic
    • Weaknesses: Fairy (4x), Fighting, Bug, Dragon, Ice
    • Resistances: Grass, Water, Fire, Electric, Ghost, Dark
    • Immunities: Ground, Psychic

Hydreigon's 4x weakness to Fairy-type moves is significant. Consider using Terastallization to mitigate this, or ensure it has a Steel-type move like Flash Cannon (TM). A special attacker build is generally preferred due to its movepool. Other recommended moves include Nasty Plot, Dragon Pulse (or Draco Meteor), and Dark Pulse.

Stat Base Stat
HP 92
Attack 105
Sp. Attack 125
Defense 90
Sp. Defense 90
Speed 98
Total 600

Hydreigon's high offensive stats and diverse movepool make it a formidable Pokémon, despite its weaknesses. Strategic move selection and Terastallization are key to maximizing its potential.
