Resident Evil Requiem Gameplay Shows First- and Third-Person Modes

by Camila Jan 14,2026

Capcom offered our initial glimpse of Resident Evil: Requiem gameplay through brief segments shown during a recent livestream.

At the Capcom Spotlight event, a short first-person gameplay clip highlighted the intense horror atmosphere, featuring new protagonist FBI Agent Grace Ashcroft. The scene depicts her cautiously navigating eerie corridors, equipped with only a lighter. At one moment, Ashcroft turns to find a hulking humanoid creature emerging from the shadows.

Another first-person sequence shows Ashcroft exploring a grand hallway, this time armed with a handgun—fitting for an FBI agent skilled with firearms. Her ability to "remain calm and use deductive reasoning" is also showcased, as she inspects a toolbox in Resident Evil's signature close-up style.

Finally, a brief third-person view presents Ashcroft once again traversing dark, unsettling corridors and dimly lit rooms. The same terrifying creature is spotted casually moving in the shadows.

In the video, Capcom developers explained how the first-person perspective creates "tense, realistic gameplay," while the over-the-shoulder third-person view allows players to "see more of the action." They noted that the third-person mode is "ideal for those who prefer action-heavy gameplay."

Resident Evil: Requiem enables players to switch between first- and third-person perspectives at any time via the Options menu. For additional details, check out IGN’s hands-on preview of the game.

Capcom also confirmed that Resident Evil: Requiem is set 30 years after the missile strike on Raccoon City at the conclusion of Resident Evil 3, clarifying the massive crater seen in the announcement trailer. The title "Requiem" was chosen because, as Capcom stated, "This game serves as a requiem, a eulogy for those who came before."

Despite fan anticipation, there was no major reveal involving Leon Kennedy. If the veteran Resident Evil character is playable, that announcement may come at a later date. It's worth noting that Capcom developers shared intriguing comments about Leon's potential role, which we explore further here.

Resident Evil: Requiem launches on February 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. For more updates, explore all the announcements from Capcom Spotlight 2025.
