Rune Slayer Fishing 101

Dismiss any doubts: *Rune Slayer*’s inclusion of fishing firmly establishes its MMORPG credentials. This guide navigates the surprisingly non-intuitive fishing mechanics. We’ve wrestled with this ourselves, so consider this your lifeline to aquatic success.

Before reeling in your first catch, accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman (the white-haired NPC near the Barracuda’s swimming area). He needs five “fish” from you in exchange for a Tackle Box (the quotation marks will make sense later).

To fish, you’ll need a rod and bait. Conveniently, Simon sells both.

Purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and at least five Worms (ten is recommended). Crucially, you *don't* equip the bait; simply keep the Worms in your inventory. Each successful catch consumes one Worm. A minimum of five Worms seems necessary for any catches to occur. Keeping them in your hotbar aids inventory management.

Select your Wood Fishing Rod (no equipping needed; just have it in your hotbar). Cast your line (hold M1) into the water (the pier near Simon is ideal). Watch the bobber; when it ripples (once or twice), click M1 again to reel in your catch.

Success isn't guaranteed. You might catch nothing, or you might catch junk. Fortunately, Simon counts junk as a successful catch (hence the "fish" quotation marks). Simply repeat the process until you've caught five items.

Once you've caught five items, return to Simon to complete the quest and receive your Tackle Box. Use this to store remaining Worms, freeing up valuable inventory space. Happy fishing! For more *Rune Slayer* assistance, consult our Ultimate Beginner’s Guide.
