This week, Mortal Kombat 1 rolled out a significant update that brought the iconic Conan the Barbarian into its roster of fighters. But alongside this anticipated addition, there was a surprise that caught everyone off guard—a secret ninja character named Floyd, dressed in pink. At first glance, you might dismiss Floyd as a mere gag, but he's a legitimate fighter with a unique backstory.
Floyd is a homage to the legendary rock band Pink Floyd, specifically referencing the iconic cover of their album "The Dark Side of the Moon," which depicts the dispersion of light into a spectrum of colors. In gameplay, Floyd borrows moves from other ninjas; he can freeze opponents like Sub-Zero or launch spears like Scorpion. Adding to his quirky charm, Floyd comes with exactly 1337 health points, a nod to the internet slang for "leet" or elite.
For long-time fans, Floyd might evoke a sense of déjà vu, reminiscent of the original Mortal Kombat's secret fighter, Reptile. Like Reptile, who combined moves from other ninjas and was notoriously challenging to defeat, Floyd adds an element of nostalgia and surprise to the game.
Currently, the Mortal Kombat community is buzzing, trying to unlock encounters with Floyd. While the method appears to be somewhat random, Floyd drops hints about the challenges players need to complete. However, a definitive strategy has yet to be confirmed, keeping the excitement alive as players search for the elusive pink ninja.
