SETTRIS: Underwater Tetris Launches on Android

ZOO Corporation, a Japanese game developer, has just released a new Android title called SETTRIS. As the name suggests, the game draws clear inspiration from Tetris. If you enjoy relaxing, methodical puzzle experiences, this one might be worth a closer look.

Is it just another block puzzle game?

On the surface, it might seem that way. However, Settris establishes its own distinct pace and strategic depth. It encourages a thoughtful, almost meditative approach as you figure out how to perfectly fill the grid with various polyomino-shaped blocks.

The core gameplay involves placing these uniquely shaped pieces onto a board to solve each puzzle. You have the freedom to rotate and flip them for the perfect fit. While the initial stages are quite straightforward, the difficulty noticeably increases after just a few levels. With no built-in hint system, progress relies on your own logic and perseverance.

Settris is split into two main modes

Players can choose between Stage Mode and Time Attack Mode. Stage Mode is the more relaxed option, featuring a total of 80 puzzles. Each stage presents a board and a specific set of blocks that must fill it completely without any gaps. As you advance, the blocks become more complex and the board layouts more challenging.

Time Attack Mode, on the other hand, challenges you to solve as many puzzles as possible within a strict time limit. It offers three difficulty levels, determined by the number of blocks you must place: three, four, or five pieces per puzzle.

To earn the achievements for each difficulty, you need to solve ten puzzles within five minutes. Since the game randomizes the puzzles in Time Attack, you'll gradually learn to recognize patterns and develop faster solutions through repetition.
