Silent Hill f The First In Konami's Horror Series to Get an 18+ Rating In Japan

by Ava Mar 17,2025

Silent Hill f marks a significant milestone for the franchise: it's the first Silent Hill game to receive an 18+ rating (CERO:Z) in Japan. This contrasts with previous entries, such as Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room, which all received a CERO:C rating (15+). Even the Silent Hill 2 Remake, while carrying a mature rating in the West, only achieved a CERO:C rating in Japan. The US rating is Mature, and PEGI 18 in Europe.

As revealed in the Japanese-language trailer, Silent Hill f, currently in development, boasts a Mature rating in the US, PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan. While subject to change, this rating highlights a departure from the series' previous Japanese age ratings.

Konami's recent Silent Hill Transmission focused entirely on Silent Hill f, the first mainline entry in thirteen years. Announced in 2022, the game transports players to 1960s Japan, where they follow Shimizu Hinako, a teenager grappling with societal pressures. The narrative is penned by Ryukishi07, creator of the When They Cry visual novel series.

The trailer showcases Hinako's distress, depicted through blood, wounds, and a torn uniform. While primarily showcasing cutscenes, the trailer offers glimpses into the game's setting, monster designs, and a potentially unique Otherworld, characterized by blood-red flowers instead of the series' typical rusty aesthetic.

Currently, there's no release date for Silent Hill f, and no further updates were provided regarding No Code's Silent Hill Townfall.
