"Silent Hill f: A Fresh Start for New and Old Fans, Says Konami"

by Allison May 26,2025

Silent Hill f stands apart as a unique entry in the iconic Silent Hill series, not serving as a sequel to any of the previous titles. Drawing inspiration from Silent Hill 2, it promises a standalone narrative, described by Konami on X/Twitter as "independent from the series." This latest installment, typically rooted in the eerie ambiance of a small American east-coast resort town, will instead venture into new territory as "a completely new title" designed to be accessible to newcomers and seasoned fans alike.

While the core entries like Silent Hill 1, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill Origins weave a continuous thread through the series, others such as Silent Hill 2 have offered more loosely connected experiences. Even Silent Hill 4: The Room and Homecoming have ventured beyond the confines of the titular town. Konami's announcement reassures fans that Silent Hill f's unique setting in 1960s Japan will not require prior knowledge of the 26-year-old franchise.

Silent Hill f transports players to 1960s Japan, where they'll embody Shimizu Hinako, a teenager grappling with societal pressures from her friends and family. The narrative is penned by Ryukishi07, the acclaimed creator behind the When They Cry visual novel series. Introduced in the Japanese-language reveal trailer back in March, this title marks a significant milestone as the first Silent Hill game to receive an 18+ rating certification in Japan.

Although still in development, the rating for Silent Hill f is currently set to change. Previous entries such as Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room have been classified as CERO:C, suitable for individuals aged 15 and above. Other international releases have hovered between CERO:C and CERO:D (ages 17+). Silent Hill f aligns with a Mature rating in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan.

While a release date for Silent Hill f remains undisclosed, anticipation also builds around No Code's forthcoming addition to the series, Townfall, with no further details available at this time.
