Nintendo Halts Regular Splatoon 3 Updates

Splatoon 4 Anticipation Mounts as an Era Concludes

Nintendo has officially announced the end of regular content updates for the acclaimed Splatoon 3. However, the game isn't entirely abandoned; holiday events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, along with ongoing monthly challenges and necessary weapon balance adjustments.

The official Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."

This news follows the September 16th conclusion of Splatoon 3's Grand Festival, commemorated with a retrospective video showcasing past Splatfests and the Deep Cut trio's performance. Nintendo's closing message was a heartfelt "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us, it's been a blast!"

Splatoon 3's two-year run, ending September 9th, has fueled rumors of a sequel, Splatoon 4. Some players believe Grand Festival's in-game locations hinted at a new city for the next installment, although others remain unconvinced. Debate swirls around whether these locations are new or simply revisited elements from the game.

Speculation about Splatoon 4 has been brewing for months, with reports suggesting Nintendo's commenced development on a Switch sequel. The Grand Festival's status as Splatoon 3's final major Splatfest has further solidified fan belief that a new entry is imminent.

Historically, Splatoon's Final Fests have influenced subsequent sequels. Splatoon 3's "Past, Present, or Future" theme could potentially foreshadow a similar direction for Splatoon 4. However, until official confirmation from Nintendo, fans will have to remain patient.
