Should You Give the Splinter of Eothas Relic to Sargamis in Avowed?

by Bella Mar 21,2025

One of the first major decisions in *Avowed* involves whether to give Sargamis the Splinter of Eothas. This choice dramatically alters the game's outcome, leading to a bad ending, a worse one, and a surprisingly positive resolution. This guide details the consequences of giving Sargamis the splinter.

Avowed Sargamis Fight

Refusing to give Sargamis the splinter triggers a confrontation. He becomes a challenging optional boss fight early in the game. Sargamis summons two spirit creatures to assist him, focusing their attacks on your companion, Kai, while he uses swift, powerful sword thrusts. He's vulnerable to ice spells, making them a useful tactic.

Defeating Sargamis rewards you with the Last Light of Day mace, a unique weapon that restores 3% health upon defeating enemies and adds 10% bonus fire damage to your attacks.

Avowed Sargamis Statue

Agreeing to give Sargamis the splinter presents two main choices (plus a third if you change your mind, resulting in a fight). You can persuade him to place himself in the statue, killing him and yielding the Last Light of Day mace. Alternatively, you can offer yourself to the statue, leading to another branching path. Standing in the designated circle and letting Sargamis activate the machine results in your death but earns you the "Get In The Statue, Envoy" achievement. Leaving the circle before activation prompts Sargamis to attack.

Avowed Sargamis Conversation

The optimal approach involves convincing Sargamis his plan is flawed. This requires an Intellect stat of 4 or higher. (See our *Avowed* respec guide for attribute adjustments.) Place the splinter in the statue, activate the machine (which will fail), and then speak with Sargamis. Convincing him of the plan's futility leads him to abandon it. The Court Augur and Arcane Scholar backgrounds may offer unique dialogue options to achieve this outcome. Avoid the intellect option regarding live soul transfer. After Sargamis leaves, choose whether to allow the voice to use the statue or destroy it yourself. Finally, speak with Sargamis in his quarters to complete this part of the Dawntreader quest, earning more experience than through combat or simply handing over the splinter.
