Square Enix has put any doubts to rest with a resounding confirmation on social media that Kingdom Hearts 4 is indeed in the works. This update comes hot on the heels of yesterday's announcement regarding the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a GPS-based action-RPG for mobile devices. Amidst the news of Missing-Link's cancellation, Square Enix took the opportunity to reassure fans that the development team is "hard at work" on the much-anticipated sequel.
"We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" the company stated in their first post. Accompanying this message was a captivating collage of screenshots that offer glimpses into the game's world. From characters you’ll encounter to cinematic scenes, combat sequences, platforming challenges, and even a confrontation with a formidable giant enemy, these images tease what's to come.

In a follow-up post, Square Enix expressed their gratitude and excitement: "We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts. We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."
This marks the first substantial update on Kingdom Hearts 4 in months, the last being a tiny, cryptic tease back in January. Despite the game's initial reveal in September 2022 with a full cinematic trailer, Square Enix had remained relatively silent on the project—until now.
Tetsuya Nomura, the series director, has previously hinted that Kingdom Hearts 4 will steer the narrative towards its conclusion after 22 years and an impressive 18 games in the series.
As for the now-canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix conveyed their "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to it. The decision to cancel was made because it was "determined that it would be difficult [...] to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
