Fans of tactical RPGs can rejoice! Triangle Strategy, the critically acclaimed Square Enix title, is back on the Nintendo Switch eShop after a short-lived delisting. The game's unexpected removal and subsequent return have sparked speculation, with many believing it's linked to Square Enix recently acquiring the publishing rights from Nintendo.
This popular Square Enix game, lauded for its revival of classic tactical RPG mechanics, draws comparisons to franchises like Fire Emblem. Its strategic unit placement and damage optimization have garnered significant praise.
Following a four-day absence, Triangle Strategy's reappearance was confirmed via a Square Enix tweet. While no official explanation was given for the delisting, the timing coincides with the publisher's acquisition of the publishing rights. This isn't the first time a Square Enix title has been temporarily removed from the eShop; Octopath Traveler experienced a similar, albeit longer, absence last year.
This event highlights the ongoing, positive relationship between Square Enix and Nintendo. The companies have a long history of collaboration, evident in past releases like the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series (initially a Switch exclusive) and the Nintendo Switch exclusive release of the definitive edition of Dragon Quest 11. While Square Enix has expanded its releases to other platforms, the company continues its tradition of releasing console-exclusive titles, as seen with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (currently PlayStation 5 exclusive). The return of Triangle Strategy is welcome news for Switch owners and reinforces the strong bond between these two gaming giants.
