Squid Game Season 3: A New Start?

by Camila Oct 21,2025

Squid Game Season 3 is positioned as the dramatic conclusion to the series, culminating in an epic showdown between Player 456 and the enigmatic Front Man. But does this truly mark the end of Netflix's global phenomenon? Or might the Squid Game universe continue expanding beyond this chapter?

Earlier this month, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk hinted that while Season 3 concludes his original vision, potential exists for a spin-off exploring the "three-year gap between Season 1 and 2."

Lee Byung-hun, who portrays the masked Front Man, recently suggested the third season may not signal the franchise's true finale. "Director Hwang insists it's the conclusion," the actor told The Gamer, "but when I read the script, I sensed it could equally serve as a new beginning."

Could this imply the deadly games might persist beyond the current narrative? Fans speculate about a teaser showing Squid Game variants being played internationally - perhaps indicating the Korean version is just one branch of a global operation ripe for exploration.

"Personally," Byung-hun added, "if audience enthusiasm continues growing, anything becomes possible."

Despite franchise potential, creator Hwang acknowledges needing respite after physically exhausting back-to-back productions, including losing teeth from stress. "This concludes the entire saga," he stated definitively. "It's time for farewells."

Yet with record-breaking viewership, Netflix may have other plans. The streamer's decision could hinge on Season 3's reception when it premieres June 27, 2025.
