Star Wars fans, brace yourselves for a thrilling journey beyond the events of *The Rise of Skywalker*, but not quite from the hand of Shawn Levy. While the anticipation for Levy’s *Star Wars: Starfighter* remains high, a new young adult novel titled *Star Wars: The Last Order* is set to satiate our hunger for more Star Wars stories sooner. This novel, unveiled by publisher Penguin Random House, promises to delve deeper into the lives of John Boyega's beloved hero Finn and Naomi Ackie's resistance ally Jannah, characters we met in *The Rise of Skywalker*.
Authored by Kwame Mbalia, *The Last Order* follows the aftermath of *The Rise of Skywalker*. The official synopsis reads: “Following the end of *Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker*, the Resistance rescues a ship full of young passengers who had been kidnapped by the First Order. As Finn and Jannah set out to find the First Order officer responsible before he can endanger any more children, the two former stormtroopers must wrestle with their own complicated pasts as soldiers of the oppressive regime.” This narrative marks the first Star Wars project to explore the universe post-*Rise of Skywalker*, setting the stage for further adventures in this beloved galaxy.
While *The Last Order* offers an immediate dive into the aftermath, Shawn Levy’s *Star Wars: Starfighter* remains firmly on the horizon. In a February interview with Deadline, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy shared insights into the film's timeline, stating, “It’s all post-[the first] nine. Shawn’s is a standalone Star Wars story that'll take place post-nine, maybe five or six years out.” Excitement for the film continues to build, with writer Jonathan Tropper expressing his enthusiasm to Screen Rant last month, saying, "I hope it's on the way sooner than you think." Days later, the release date for the film was announced at Star Wars Celebration Japan, with Ryan Gosling confirmed to star.

According to Penguin Random House, *Star Wars: The Last Order* is slated for release on October 21, 2025. Meanwhile, fans will have to wait a bit longer for Levy’s *Star Wars: Starfighter*, which is scheduled to hit theaters on May 28, 2027. With these exciting additions to the Star Wars saga, the future looks bright for fans eager to explore more of this expansive universe.
