Zynga Announces Shutdown of Star Wars Hunters Nine Months After Launch

Zynga has revealed plans to completely sunset Star Wars Hunters, pulling the plug just nine months after its initial release. The publisher appears to have abandoned plans for a Steam PC version as well.

A Short-Lived Galactic Arena

The free-to-play team battle arena game, developed by NaturalMotion, debuted on Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android in June 2024. IGN's review scored it 7/10, noting it offered "lighthearted PvP fun - entertaining for a while, but not built for long-term engagement." This assessment proved prophetic.

Zynga announced that "after careful evaluation," the final content update will arrive April 15, with servers staying online until October 1, 2025. "We recognize this news may disappoint players," the statement reads, "but we're committed to maintaining transparency throughout this transition."

End-of-Life Roadmap

The shutdown process includes:

  • Season 5 extension through March 25, featuring returning events and shop bundles
  • Final Ranked Season extension for players pursuing Kyber 1 rank
  • April 15 update introducing new Support Hunter Tuya at no cost
  • October 1 server shutdown

What About PC Players?

Previously announced Steam early access plans have been scrapped. The Steam store page now displays an "unavailable" notice, marking an abrupt end to Zynga's first PC publishing attempt. Just last November executives touted the PC version as responding to "strong community demand."

The closure leaves Star Wars fans awaiting several upcoming titles, including Respawn's next Jedi installment and Bit Reactor's tactical game set for reveal at Star Wars Celebration 2025.
