Aspyr's upcoming release of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles for modern consoles features a surprising new playable character: Jar Jar Binks! A recently released trailer showcases Jar Jar wielding a large staff and employing his characteristically chaotic fighting style.
The remastered Jedi Power Battles, originally released in 2000, already boasts a diverse roster of playable characters. However, Jar Jar's inclusion is a significant and unexpected addition for fans of the original game. This updated version aims to recapture the nostalgia of the classic while offering new content, including customizable lightsaber colors, cheat code support, and a significantly expanded character selection.
Beyond Jar Jar, Aspyr has unveiled nine additional playable characters, with more promised. This expanded roster includes a variety of fan favorites and new additions, such as the Rodian, Flame Droid, Gungan Guard, Destroyer Droid, Ishi Tib, Rifle Droid, Staff Tusken Raider, Weequay, and Mercenary. The inclusion of multiple droid types and even a second Gungan character highlights the game's broadened appeal.
Jar Jar Binks will be playable upon the game's launch on January 23rd, and pre-orders are currently available. Aspyr's track record with other classic Star Wars game re-releases, such as Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, suggests a potential for a highly polished and faithful update to the original Jedi Power Battles experience. Fans eagerly anticipate the release to explore this expanded universe of playable characters and enhanced gameplay features.
