Superman Unlimited Brings Marvel Mainstay Dan Slott Back to DC Comics

by Logan Mar 22,2025

DC Comics has announced Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series launching in May 2025, marking the return of Marvel Comics veteran Dan Slott to DC. Slott, renowned for his work on titles like The Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four, will be writing the series. While he previously contributed to DC books such as Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and Batman Adventures, Slott has been primarily associated with Marvel for the past two decades.

Superman Unlimited pairs Slott with artist Rafael Albuquerque (known for American Vampire) and colorist Marcelo Maiolo. Slott expressed his excitement, stating, “He’s the first and greatest superhero, and I’ve been waiting my whole life to tell stories about him… Rafael Albuquerque and I are going to take him—and you—to places you’ll want to escape to every month. Millions of surprising ideas for Superman, Lois, the supporting cast, classic rogues, and all-new friends and foes too. If you’ve never read a Superman book, a DC book, or any comic book before—or if you’ve been a Superman fan your entire life—you couldn’t ask for a better place to take the leap and go all in than Superman Unlimited #1.”

The series introduces a perilous new reality for Superman. A Kryptonite asteroid shower leaves the planet saturated with Green K, empowering enemies like Intergang with Kryptonite-enhanced weaponry. This forces Superman to develop innovative technology and fighting strategies. Simultaneously, Clark Kent faces a transformed Daily Planet, now a global multimedia conglomerate after merging with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications.

DC group editor Paul Kaminski compared Superman Unlimited to Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness's Superman/Batman from the early 2000s, highlighting its grand-scale adventures while introducing a significant new Kryptonite deposit. He described a world where even petty crimes become deadly encounters due to widespread Kryptonite weaponry, presenting unprecedented challenges for Superman and his allies. Kaminski also noted the contrast with the concurrently running Justice League Unlimited, which focuses on unlimited heroes, while Superman Unlimited features unlimited, Kryptonite-empowered villains.

A 10-page prelude story in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 (releasing May 3, 2025) will precede the launch of Superman Unlimited #1 on May 21, shortly before James Gunn's Superman movie hits theaters on July 11.
