"Upgrade Ice Staff in Black Ops 6 Zombies: Guide"

by Peyton May 27,2025

The Staff of Ice stands out as a unique Wonder Weapon in the *Call of Duty* series. While its initial form may seem underwhelming, the upgraded version becomes essential for tackling high rounds and navigating main quest Easter eggs. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to upgrade the Staff of Ice in *Black Ops 6* Zombies.

Prerequisites for Upgrading the Staff of Ice in Black Ops 6 Zombies

To upgrade the Staff of Ice on The Tomb map in *Black Ops 6* Zombies, you need to fulfill two main prerequisites. First, you must obtain the Ice Staff itself. This can be done by either finding it in the Mystery Box or assembling it using its three parts.

The upgrade process largely takes place within the Dark Aether Nexus. To proceed with the upgrade, ensure you open the Door to Nowhere early on to access the Dark Aether.

How To Upgrade the Staff of Ice in Black Ops 6 Zombies

Step 1: Freeze Dark Aether Crystals

Dark Aether Crystals in Black Ops 6 ZombiesThe initial step involves freezing three Dark Aether Crystals within the lanterns found in The Tomb's underground areas. These lanterns, marked by a black frame and glowing purple fire, are your targets. Use the Staff of Ice to freeze these crystals in quick succession. To enhance your chances, equip Stamin-Up and/or PHD Flopper with the Tribologist Minor Augment to boost your movement speed.

The strategic route you choose is crucial, as is the manipulation of lantern spawns. Waiting a few rounds can help position the lanterns closer together. Start at the tomb area, then move to the Shrine of the Hierophants, and finally, the lantern at the Subterranean Temple entrance. Ensure one of the lanterns is active, as the one near Quick Revive is too distant. Upon successful completion, you'll hear a quote from Archibald, signaling you to enter the Dark Aether Nexus.

Step 2: Floating Rocks in the Dark Aether Nexus

Floating Rocks in Dark Aether NexusIn the Dark Aether Nexus, locate three specific floating rocks adorned with glowing purple Runes, each displaying a unique symbol. These symbols can vary each game, so take note of them.

Shoot each Rune with the Staff of Ice. A successful hit will lower the rock, making it easier to see the symbol. A sniper rifle or a weapon with a high-zoom scope can aid in spotting these symbols. The order in which you shoot the rocks doesn't matter, as long as all three are hit.

Step 3: Rune Symbols Puzzle

Rune Symbols Puzzle in Black Ops 6 ZombiesAfter completing the previous step, a stone wall will replace one of the portals back to the main map. Navigate to the corresponding area on the map to find a wall with multiple glowing Runic icons. Identify and shoot the three symbols that match those from the floating rocks. This action will reopen the portal.

Note that the portal will open regardless of the accuracy of your shots, but incorrect symbols will lead to spawning in the wrong location within the Dark Aether Nexus. Multiple failures might require waiting for the next round to retry.

If you correctly shoot the symbols, you'll find yourself on a floating rock with a purple orb. Interact with the orb to proceed.

Step 4: Soul Chest Orb Escort

The Orb will eventually reach the central structure in the Dark Aether Nexus. Once it settles, interact with the small purple portal that appears to upgrade your Staff of Ice to Ull’s Arrow.

What Does the Upgraded Ice Staff Do in Black Ops 6 Zombies?

Ull’s Arrow, the upgraded version of the Staff of Ice, retains the powerful charge attack from the classic Origins map, dealing high area-of-effect damage. Additionally, it features an alternate fire mode capable of reviving downed teammates.

And that’s the complete guide on how to upgrade the Staff of Ice in *Black Ops 6* Zombies.
