by Sarah Jan 18,2025

Get ready, Pokémon GO trainers! January's first week is almost over, and the next Spotlight Hour event is just around the corner – this Tuesday! With numerous events already underway, now's the time to stock up on Poké Balls and Berries.

Pokémon GO consistently delivers exciting monthly events, including Max Mondays, Community Days, and the weekly Spotlight Hours, each featuring a specific Pokémon with a chance to snag a Shiny. Here's the lowdown on the upcoming event:

Voltorb & Hisuian Voltorb Spotlight Hour

This week's Spotlight Hour, featuring Voltorb and Hisuian Voltorb, runs Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 6 PM to 7 PM local time. Prepare for a double dose of Shiny hunting! Both Pokémon offer significant combat advantages, especially when extra damage is needed.

Given the two Pokémon, prioritize stocking up on Poké Balls, Berries, and Incense. These items boost your chances of catching Shinies and powering up your catches. Also, clear some space in your Pokémon storage; you'll be catching a lot!

Voltorb (#100 in the Pokédex), a Kanto region Pokémon, is tradeable and transferable to Pokémon Home. Catching it yields 3 Candies and 100 Stardust. It evolves into Electrode with 50 Candies. With a max CP of 1141, 109 Attack, and 111 Defense, Voltorb packs a punch.

Remember, Voltorb is Electric-type, taking increased damage from Ground-type attacks (160%) and reduced damage from Electric, Flying, and Steel types (63%). The optimal moveset is Spark (Electric) and Discharge (Electric), delivering 5.81 DPS and 40.62 TDO. Rainy weather boosts its attack. A blue Shiny Voltorb awaits!

Hisuian Voltorb (#100), also from Kanto and transferable to Pokémon Home, shares Voltorb's evolution line and rewards (3 Candies and 100 Stardust upon capture). Its stats mirror Voltorb's (1141 CP, 111 Defense, 109 Attack). As an Electric-type, its strengths and weaknesses differ slightly. Bug, Fire, Ice, and Poison types deal 160% damage, while Grass, Steel, and Water types deal 63%, and other Electric types deal 39% damage. The best moveset is Tackle (Normal) and Thunderbolt (Electric), offering 5.39 DPS and 37.60 TDO. Partly Cloudy and Rainy weather enhance its damage output. Look for the Shiny variant – a black Hisuian Voltorb!
