World of Warcraft Adding Heartfelt Tribute NPC in Patch 11.1

by Zoe Feb 11,2025

World of Warcraft Patch 11.1: A Tribute to Mats Steen and Undermine Expansion

World of Warcraft's upcoming Patch 11.1, potentially releasing around February 25th, promises exciting new content, including a significant tribute to the late Mats Steen, a beloved player whose life is documented in "The Remarkable Life of Ibelin."

This patch introduces Lord Ibelin Redmoore, an NPC directly inspired by Steen's in-game character. Datamined information reveals the NPC's title as "Private Investigator," a nod to Steen's popular roleplaying activities as a detective in Stormwind. While the specifics of Ibelin's in-game presence remain undisclosed, the inclusion is a touching memorial to Steen's legacy.

Beyond the tribute NPC, Patch 11.1 centers on expanding the Undermine, the Goblin capital city. This major content update for "World of Warcraft: The War Within" will offer new quests and adventures within this vibrant location.

Lord Ibelin Redmoore: A Detailed Look

Steen's character, Ibelin, was renowned for his roleplaying within the Starlight guild. His detective persona frequently interacted with other players in Stormwind. Speculation suggests Ibelin's in-game appearance might involve patrolling familiar Stormwind taverns or following a route Steen himself often traversed – from Stormwind through Westfall, Duskwood, the Redridge Mountains, and back to Elwynn Forest. The possibility of an early appearance on the Public Test Realm (PTR) exists.

This marks the third tribute to Ibelin within World of Warcraft. Previous memorials include a replica of his real-life grave in Elwynn Forest and the Reven fox pet and backpack from a recent charity bundle supporting CureDuchenne. These gestures underscore the profound impact Steen had on the World of Warcraft community.
