The Witcher 4: everything we know so far

The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3 captivated gamers, the first trailer for Witcher 4 has dropped, introducing Ciri as the protagonist.

As many fans remember, Ciri is Geralt's adopted daughter. With Geralt's trilogy concluded, the spotlight shifts to the next generation. The trailer shows Ciri intervening in a village gripped by superstition, where a young woman is about to be sacrificed to a monster. Ciri's intervention reveals a far more complex situation than initially apparent.

There's no official release date for Witcher 4. Considering the development times of Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077 (even longer), and the early stage of Witcher 4's production, a 3-4 year timeframe is a reasonable estimate.

While no platforms have been announced, given the projected timeline, a current-gen-only release (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC) is likely. Unlike Witcher 3's Switch port, a similar feat seems improbable this time, though a potential Switch 2 release remains a possibility.

Although gameplay remains unseen, CD Projekt Red is expected to maintain the core gameplay mechanics of the franchise. The CGI trailer hints at returning elements like potions, signs, and combat. A new addition may be Ciri's chain, used for both trapping monsters and channeling magic.

Voice actor Doug Cockle (Geralt) previously confirmed Geralt's involvement, albeit in a supporting role. The trailer includes Geralt's voice, fueling speculation of a mentor-like function for the veteran Witcher.
