Xbox Game Pass: Unbeatable Value for RPG Enthusiasts

by Ellie May 14,2025

As someone who transitioned from Xbox to PC gaming, I've always relied on Steam sales to keep up with new releases. Game Pass never seemed compelling enough for me—until now. Yesterday's surprise drop of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered by Bethesda and Virtuos directly onto Game Pass was a game-changer. And with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 from Sandfall Interactive set to join the service tomorrow, Microsoft has finally won me over as a dedicated RPG enthusiast.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Both Hit Game Pass This Week

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate – 1 Month Membership – Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows, Cloud Gaming Devices [Digital Code]

$19.99 at Amazon

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was unveiled and released on April 22 across PC, consoles, and Game Pass. I spent the day downloading and the night immersed in its enchanting music. The remaster boasts new character models, enhanced combat interactions, and revamped visual effects. While over five new voice actors were brought on board, Virtuos wisely retained the quirky charm of the original dialogue. The base edition is priced at $49.99, including the original DLCs, with a deluxe edition available for an additional $10.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the eagerly anticipated debut from French studio Sandfall Interactive, launches at midnight PST tonight. It has already achieved a stellar 92 rating on Metacritic, with IGN awarding it a 9/10 for its captivating story design, labeling it "a true modern throwback." The game's UI echoes the style of the Persona series, while its turn-based combat system stands out as one of the most innovative I've encountered. The base edition is also priced at $49.99.

Although Expedition 33 was set to be the highlight of April's Game Pass lineup, the sudden release of Oblivion Remastered has raised some concerns about overshadowing the indie title. However, I believe Game Pass subscribers are in for a treat with both games. Instead of shelling out $100 for two new titles, I opted for a $20 Game Pass Ultimate subscription, making it much easier on the wallet. Now, the only dilemma is when I'll step outside again.

Game Pass has been expanding its library with 2025's major releases, including Blue Prince, South of Midnight, and Avowed, alongside classics like GTA V and the full range of Call of Duty titles. There truly is something for every type of gamer.

Game Pass Is a Ridiculously Good Deal Right Now

Game Pass Ultimate is available for $19.99 per month, offering access to the entire Game Pass library across console, PC, and cloud gaming. The PC-only Game Pass is priced at $9.99 per month. The Standard and Core tiers are $14.99 and $9.99 per month, respectively, though they don't include day-one releases. The last price increase occurred in July 2024, and with these high-profile additions, further hikes seem likely.

Currently, there are no active Game Pass deals, but purchasing a three-month subscription could shield you from future price increases. For deals on other platforms, check out our roundups for PS5, PC, and Switch. Also, U.S. preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 open tonight.
