What Awards XP in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

In Assassin's Creed Shadows, XP for leveling up is earned through various actions: eliminating enemies, assassinating targets, completing quests, and engaging with side content. The XP reward varies greatly depending on the activity, so strategic prioritization is key for efficient leveling. Check the map or objectives tab to see the XP reward before undertaking any quest or activity. Castles and optional assassinations offer the fastest XP gains.

Numerous castles across Japan in Assassin's Creed Shadows provide excellent XP farming opportunities. Each castle offers several thousand XP upon completion, plus additional XP for eliminating enemies within. Elite enemies and Samurai Daisho yield significant XP bonuses (around 250 XP each). Synchronizing with viewpoints in the castles also awards XP (usually a few hundred) and unlocks fast travel points.

While castles offer substantial XP, they can be challenging. Here are some tips for maximizing your efficiency:

  • Character Choice: Naoe's Eagle Vision allows for quick location of Samurai Daisho, enabling stealth assassinations for faster kills. However, optimize your mastery and engravings to ensure one-hit assassinations. Yasuke is better for lower levels; trigger the alarm and engage in open combat to draw enemies together.

  • Strategic Approach: A skilled player can earn 4,000 XP or more from a castle in a few minutes by employing these tactics.

Beyond main quest assassinations, Assassin's Creed Shadows features numerous optional assassination targets. Discover these by interacting with specific NPCs and using scouts to track locations. Utilize fast travel points (like Kakurega) to quickly reach targets, then use your mount for the final approach and swift elimination.

Each assassination awards a substantial XP bonus (typically 2,000-3,000 XP) in addition to XP for the kill itself. Completing all targets within a group and returning to the quest giver yields an even larger bonus (around 5,000 XP).
