Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana presents several challenging boss encounters, and Dularn, the Creeping Shadow, is the first formidable opponent players will face. This initial boss fight often represents a significant difficulty spike. However, understanding Dularn's attack patterns makes this battle manageable.
Dularn initially surrounds himself with a protective barrier, rendering him invulnerable. The key is to survive his attacks until the barrier dissipates, creating an opportunity to inflict damage. The boss's health varies depending on the chosen difficulty setting. While players can retreat to regain strength, defeating Dularn is mandatory to progress. Avoid contact with Dularn while his barrier is active, as it will inflict damage.
Dularn unleashes various sword attacks:
To evade these attacks, strategically utilize wide circles around Dularn while the barrier is up. Combine this circling movement with timely jumps to avoid the majority of the sword strikes. For the linear thrust, a well-timed jump is crucial. Once the barrier drops, unleash a flurry of attacks before Dularn teleports and reforms his shield.
Dularn employs two types of projectile attacks:
A volley of fireballs is launched. Dodge these by moving between them or jumping over individual projectiles. Combining movement with jumps maximizes evasion.
A large, sweeping blue slash is unleashed, leaving no gaps for evasion. The only effective counter is to jump over it. These projectile attacks often precede periods of vulnerability, signaling an opportunity to attack Dularn.
The key to victory lies in mastering Dularn's attack patterns; grinding levels isn't necessary.
Defeating Dularn grants access to the Ignis Bracelet, a magical bracelet that allows fireball attacks, becoming a valuable asset throughout the game.
