Thousand (1000) - Schnapsen

A classic card game designed for three players using a 24‑card deck.

Current game agreements:

- A player needs 880 points to earn a barrel.

- Points are cleared after three unsuccessful attempts to play a barrel.

- A bolt is awarded if a player scores zero points in a round.

- Accumulating three bolts results in a 120‑point penalty.

- If a player forfeits, they receive a penalty equal to the statement, while the other two players each receive half that amount.

The game supports the following settings:

- Winning requires more than 1000 points.

- Points are cleared upon reaching 555 or -555 points.

- Barrel game played on the player’s own turn, without bidding from others (see below).

- New card distribution if the talon or hand falls below a certain point threshold.

- Ace marriage.

- Golden round.

- Combined barrel playing scenarios.

Barrel game on “own turn”:

A player may initiate a barrel round if they have 880 points and the “own turn.”

The turn is considered “own” when the player holds the first‑call right in bidding.

In this case, the player automatically wins the bidding and takes the talon (regardless of other players’ card strength).

If the barrel game is unsuccessful, the player receives an unsuccessful attempt and a 120‑point penalty.

After three unsuccessful tries, points are cleared.

When a player is in a barrel but does not have the “own turn,” the round proceeds normally, though they earn no points (and no unsuccessful attempt is recorded).

It is also permitted for multiple players to simultaneously hold 880 points and qualify for a barrel game.

In such a situation, the barrel player is determined by turn order.
