7 Days To Die offers diverse mission types, with infested missions standing out as particularly challenging yet rewarding. This guide covers everything you need to know about tackling these missions, from initiation to reaping the rewards.
To begin, visit one of the five traders (Rekt, Jen, Bob, Hugh, or Joe). Mission location and tier significantly impact difficulty; higher tiers mean tougher enemies. Biome also matters—Wasteland missions are generally harder than forest missions.
Infested missions unlock after completing 10 Tier 1 missions, granting access to Tier 2 and beyond. Expect more and tougher zombies (radiated, cops, ferals) than standard clear missions. Tier 6 missions are the most difficult but offer substantial rewards for well-prepared players. The objective remains consistent: eliminate all enemies within a designated area.
Upon reaching the Point of Interest (POI), activate the mission marker. Leaving the area or dying results in mission failure. POIs often have pre-set paths; avoid these to prevent triggering traps. Use alternative routes, perhaps even climbing building exteriors using building blocks, to surprise enemies.
Activated zombies appear as red dots on the screen; dot size indicates proximity. Prioritize headshots, but be mindful of special zombie types:
Zombie Type | Abilities | Countermeasures |
---|---|---|
Cops | Spit toxic vomit, explode when injured | Maintain distance, use cover when they cock their heads back before spitting. |
Spiders | Jump long distances | Listen for their screech before they jump; prepare for quick headshots. |
Screamers | Summon other zombies | Prioritize eliminating them to prevent overwhelming hordes. |
Demolition Zombies | Carry explosive packages | Avoid hitting their chests to prevent premature detonation; run if explosion starts. |
The final room usually contains high-tier loot, but also a large number of zombies. Ensure you're fully healed and prepared before entering. Knowing your escape route is crucial.
Once all zombies are eliminated, report back to the trader to claim your rewards after collecting loot, including the valuable infested cache.
Rewards are random but influenced by game stage, loot stage (boosted by skills like Lucky Looter and mods like Treasure Hunter), mission tier, and perk choices.
Investing in the "A Daring Adventurer" perk is highly recommended. At rank 4, it allows you to select two rewards instead of one, significantly increasing the value of completed missions. Sell unwanted items to the trader for additional XP.
